The 9 Biggest Lies You Tell Yourself That You Need To Get Rid of To Succeed
#3: “I’m not responsible”.
Reality is what it is, but we all have a different perception that may support some of our biases, or even save us from things we are not able to accept at a given moment.
For some people, denying the truth is something that becomes second nature. These people end up inventing an alternative world in which all their fears no longer exist.
This allows them to go through life easier. Since the end of the year 2020, you have an example of a person who practices this on a large scale. I am thinking here of Donald Trump who still refuses to accept his defeat by Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
However, you will have to act differently from the former president of the United States by facing your fears to accept what the reality is and then be able to realize your full potential. Without this, you will never achieve the success you can be proud of.
In what follows, I reveal the 9 big lies we all tell ourselves that you need to get rid of to take your life to the next level.
“I’m not worthy”
Success is the destination of an exciting journey you will have to take. Throughout this journey, you will have to build your road. Doubt will be your greatest enemy. On many occasions, you will feel that you are not good enough, that you are too emotional, too logical, or too shy.
In short, you will feel that you are not worthy.
This is a lie that you will tell yourself to justify your failures and comfort yourself. Everyone fails. Period. What will make you a winner is how you react to your failures.
You can join the losing side by turning your back on your problems and the obstacles that were in front of you, or you can join the winning side in the making. To do this, you must accept your failures in earnest so that you can learn from them and do better the next time.
The rest will be a matter of perseverance, resilience, and patience.
“I’m not capable”
This is a classic example of people who refuse to make the effort necessary to change their lives. They say they can't do it. To hear them tell it, the successful ones had all the cards in their favor.
This is another lie you are telling yourself.
No one picks the cards in the game of life. That is a fact. You, on the other hand, will decide what to do with your cards. Nothing is lost in advance for anyone who gives himself the means to do more with what he has.
Your only limits in life are the ones you set for yourself. Instead of saying you can't do it, start by making a clear plan of what you'll need to do to achieve your goals. Then take action!
“I’m not responsible”
You are responsible for your failures. Period.
Taking responsibility for your failures is the only way to learn from them so that you can do better. If you refuse to accept your share of the responsibility, then you will remain stuck in a fantasy world similar to Donald Trump's.
This is not what you want. Whatever happens in your life, take responsibility for your actions. Have you made mistakes? Take responsibility! Everyone does, and again, only those who will achieve great things one day can really take responsibility and then do better.
“It’s too late”
I'm almost 40 years old. I can't change my path anymore. I am stuck in a job I hate. My life has no meaning, I can't do anything but suffer...
If you knew the number of people who every year imagine themselves stuck in a life that no longer suits them. They imagine that it is too late to change.
This is a lie that these people tell themselves to avoid taking action and to better support their life. If your life no longer suits you, you will have to act to change it. It is up to you, and you alone, to build the life of your dreams.
You are responsible for your actions. Of course, this is easier to write than to do. But that's the beauty of life. If change were easy, everyone would do it. It's up to you to decide if you're ready to take charge of your life.
“I expect the perfect time”
I often meet people who tell me that they are waiting for the right moment before acting. Some even tell me that they are waiting for the perfect moment.
There is nothing more false than to believe that a perfect moment exists.
Perfection does not exist in the eye. It is a lie that some people tell themselves to reassure themselves in the face of a new and unknown situation. Rather than jump in and then adapt to events, they prefer to wait. Wait for what? To probably better master the elements surrounding this situation.
Whatever happens, you will never be 100% in control of the elements around you if you step out of your comfort zone. That's the beauty of getting out of your comfort zone. You will be able to grow by confronting new situations that will allow you to reveal yourself to yourself.
Rather than waiting for utopian perfection, take action. Then, you will adapt to the unknown events that will occur.
“I need X to feel Y”
No one succeeds alone in life. Contrary to what some people would have you believe, we all need help on the road to success. It probably won't be the same people, but it will be the people you meet along the way that will help you in some way.
However, don't rely on others to help you feel anything in particular. First and foremost, you need to feel good about yourself to make room in your life for others.
No one is there to push you to see the world the right way. It's up to you to be an optimist and look on the bright side. Then you can seek outlasting and balanced relationships.
“The problem is with others, not with me”
This lie that some people tell themselves is complementary to the previous one concerning people who refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Faced with their failures, these people will repeat to themselves that the problem comes from others, and not from them.
To use the example of Donald Trump that I mentioned earlier, this has caused him to say for months that the election result was stolen from him.
He cannot accept the idea that the Americans did not vote for him in the majority. He cannot accept the idea that the problem is himself and the policies he has pursued for four years in the White House.
Do not fall into this trap. You have to be your biggest ally to succeed in life, but that doesn't mean you have to lie to yourself. Also, be honest with yourself which will help you to accept your failures to progress.
Without this, you will live in a fantasy world where nothing extraordinary will happen to you.
“The world owes me something”
Some people imagine that others owe them something. This is another lie they tell themselves. No one owes you anything in life. You will get what you deserve. Not always at the moment, but eventually, things will balance out.
You will probably experience injustice from time to time. But everyone experiences it. You will have to keep moving forward considering that it is part of the game of life.
If you keep going, you will get your revenge, or rather, you will get the things you want. You will get them not because the world gave them to you, but rather because you worked hard for them. So the reward will be all the better.
“There’s nothing I can do”
Faced with a difficult situation, we always feel helpless. However, we should not fall into fatalism and accept the situation saying that there is nothing we can do to change it.
Of course, there are things in life that you cannot control. That is a fact. Nevertheless, you can always do other things to move forward and not just sit back and do nothing.
The world is always moving and so should you, otherwise, you will end up staying in one place and being overwhelmed.
Whatever problems you encounter, you must take a proactive approach, seeing them as opportunities that will allow you to grow if you know how to seize them in the right way.
Final Thoughts
We all lie to ourselves at one time or another in our lives. Some more often than others, but we all fall into this trap. The best thing to do is to accept things as they are in any situation. It is not easy, but it is the best way to grow in life.
If you make the choice not to fall for the 9 most common lies I've just detailed, then you'll be truly in charge of your life, and you'll be moving in the right direction: the one that will lead you to the success you want.
