Thank You for How Far You’ve Come. It Wasn’t Easy. Keep Moving Forward.
On the importance of taking a break once in a while.
In life, you can be your best ally or your worst enemy. It all depends on how you perceive the things that happen to you. Generally, human beings tend to always see what they don't have. We are all like that. We always want more.
As a result, we find it hard to stop for a moment and take a step back to analyze what we have already accomplished.
I am suggesting here not to rest on your laurels but rather to learn to practice gratitude. Your life is not perfect, you did not get everything you want, but you must understand that it is the same for most people.
From time to time, you have to learn to take a break and realize that you've already come a long way.
It's not easy to get there, so you have to appreciate what has already been accomplished. Taking the time to appreciate things will help you to move on to the next thing. That next step is the conquest of other goals.
Because in life, we never really stop wanting more. Whether you succeed or fail, you will have to keep going without losing your enthusiasm. Life never stops and you have to keep going. Whatever your results, they are only temporary outcomes.
Your role will be to build on these outcomes to continue your journey.
Since life is a marathon, not a sprint, it is in your best interest to learn to stop and enjoy yourself from time to time. Without this, you will never be truly happy. You will get lost in an endless quest where you will never reach contentment.
Once you reach the first goal, you will want a second even bigger one, and so on.
Nothing stops. Only you have the power to slow down and enjoy. This is something that took me a long time to understand. For a long time, I was in this frantic quest for more and more. Recently, I have been questioning many things in my life, and I realize how important it is to know how to slow down.
I put an end to this race to productivity in which I had locked myself.
I accepted to do less to become a human being again rather than just a human doing. The most incredible thing is that I realized that slowing down allowed me to find a better balance between my private and professional life.
I give more time to my loved ones, and my professional results have not suffered as much as I would have feared. Quite the contrary, in fact!
And it is precisely by slowing down that I understood that I had to appreciate what I had already accomplished to better prepare what I still wished to accomplish. All this while following my own rhythm. There is no need to compare yourself to others, as we all progress at different rates.
Final Thoughts
So the next time you are lacking motivation, I encourage you to slow down and look back at what you have already accomplished. Take the time to appreciate how far you've come. It wasn't easy, but you can be proud of yourself.
You still have a lot to accomplish, and that's what should motivate you. You would be disappointed to find that you no longer have any goals to pursue. After this salutary break, which you should practice regularly, you will be ready to set out again to conquer your future goals.
All with a much stronger motivation than before.
