Success or Failure, It Is Only the Courage to Continue That Counts in Life
Showing this courage is the key.
I am a great lover of famous quotes from personalities who have marked the history of the world. I can spend long hours browsing through websites with famous quotes in different fields. I find this particularly inspiring and motivating.
If you're like me, I'm sure that the title of my story will immediately remind you of a famous quote by Winston Churchill.
Here it is in its entirety:
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
— Winston Churchill
When I came across that quote again, I thought this quote has really stood the test of time.
Whether you succeed or fail, you will need to continue
In today's world, this phrase by Winston Churchill has never been more relevant. In life, we all want to do fabulous things. We have big plans and big ideas.
In theory, everything seems possible. And then, in practice, you experience many failures, and you realize that there is a world of difference between theory and practice.
I frequently experience this effect. Even though I write about personal development, I experience the same things like the people I try to give advice and insight to. It is something human that we all have to face.
In the face of these failures, we have only one solution: to find the courage to keep moving forward. But as Winston Churchill put it so well, it's the same thing when you achieve great success. If you want to stay at the top, you have to find the courage to keep making the same efforts that will get you to the top.
So you need to understand where to focus all your efforts
Since, following a failure or a success, we must adopt the same voluntary attitude, this should serve to help us understand where we need to focus our efforts in life.
The results are uncertain. On the other hand, you can control the efforts you make. The only thing you can really control is your efforts to achieve your goals in life.
That is why I always recommend focusing only on the process. The results will be the consequence, but they are uncertain. You will have to accept them and live with them.
Many times you will fail. You will then have to find the courage to try again by adapting so that you don't make the same mistakes twice. But sometimes you will be able to succeed.
When you succeed, you will have probably forgotten everything that led you to success. This is a mistake, as Bill Gates explains:
"Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose."
— Bill Gates
Success should never cause you to lose sight of the efforts made to achieve it
Following the success, even the smartest people will eventually succumb to the greatest trap of all: thinking they can't fail. By falling into that trap, you probably can't last at the top. This is true no matter what your field is.
All along the path that will lead you sooner or later to success, I, therefore, advise you to keep a logbook in which you will note all your failures as well as all the ordeals you have had to go through. In a way, you will be documenting your life.
The day you will succeed, because that day will come if you make sufficient effort daily and know how to be persevering, you will then have at your disposal all the steps of the process that led you to success.
You will then be less inclined to make the mistake of forgetting the efforts needed to stay on top. You will find the courage to keep going because that's all that matters in the end.
Conclusion
Life is made of ups and downs. Sometimes you succeed, but often you will fail. No matter what happens, you must have the courage to keep going, either to keep yourself at the top or to learn from your mistakes and do better the next time.
If you can show this courage throughout your life, your efforts will not be in vain, and you will reach your goals sooner or later. The rest will only be a matter of patience and perseverance, which you will need to demonstrate along the road.
