Life Is Unfair – 5 Things You Must Accept To Succeed
#3: Luck plays an important role in any phenomenal success.
“The only thing that makes life unfair is the delusion that it should be fair.”
― Steve Maraboli
Many people find that life is unfair. These people see others achieve incredible success while (falsely) giving the impression that they are making virtually no effort. On their side, these complaining people are trying hard but are not getting the results that they put in to succeed.
A great frustration with life is born in these people who struggle to achieve the great things they aspire to.
These people never stop complaining when life is unfair. Rather than complaining needlessly, you must accept the obvious: life is unfair. As Steve Maraboli says, it is the illusion that life should be fair that puts these people in this deeply resentful situation.
The sooner you accept that life is unfair, the greater your chances of success. To do this, you must accept the 5 truths that I will detail below.
Some people are naturally more talented than others
Some people are naturally more gifted than others. Period. The sooner you accept this reality, the sooner you can move forward in your life. Under these conditions, it is useless to compare yourself to others.
Your job is to look for your own strengths.
Once you have found your strengths, you must build on them to succeed in conquering your goals. The good news is that talent alone is never enough in life. Sooner or later, those who work consistently with resilience will eventually achieve success.
It's just a matter of time and patience. It's up to you to show it.
You are rewarded based on the results you achieve, not on your efforts
Too often I meet people who say that they deserve certain things in life. Listening to them, their hard work over the years deserves the great reward they have been longing for.
It is a mistake to think this way.
In life, you don't deserve anything. You don't deserve to be successful or rich. You are rewarded based on the results you achieve. If you add value to a lot of people, you will end up making a lot of money. This will not be a matter of merit, but rather a logical consequence of your results.
Your hard work must produce results sooner or later for you to be rewarded.
Luck plays an important role in any phenomenal success
Luck is an important part of all the phenomenal successes you dream of. No one will honestly admit it, but luck is a factor. It is obviously not the only one.
However, at some point, you will need some luck in your journey to get to the next level.
Many hate to hear this truth because it's like saying you don't have control over what will take you from "good" to "extraordinary". But this is true. The good news is that as you work hard to be the best, luck will eventually come your way in one way or another. It will then be up to you not to let it pass.
You are judged on what you do, not what you think
Society judges you on what you do and what you can do for others. It doesn't really matter what you think of yourself. It's good for your self-confidence, but if you never produce things that bring value to others, it's useless.
So, someone who has enormous potential will have to turn that into concrete results at some point.
Good intentions are not enough. Society will always judge you on the results you achieve. It is up to you to accept this and to make sure that you get the results that will allow you to be considered as you would like to be considered.
Life is a competition
I repeat this quote from Bill Gates quite often:
“Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world … if you do so, you are insulting yourself.”
If comparing yourself to others is an insult to yourself, you should always remember that life is a competition. Collaborating with others is essential to success, but in most situations, you will have to be better than others to achieve great results.
This does not mean that you have to be horrible in your relationships with others. Quite the contrary!
Being good with others will bring you great results. But you will have to find the right balance between the times when you need to collaborate and the times when the individualistic side will prevail. This is the difficulty of life.
Final Thoughts
Life is unfair. Period. Many people are disappointed when they realize this sooner or later. But this is the absolute truth. The 5 truths I have just detailed must be accepted as soon as possible if you want to succeed in life.
Once you understand them, you can take advantage of life's unfairness to succeed. This does not mean being obnoxious to others, but simply accepting the world we live in. To succeed, this is your best option.
