Having Trouble Finding Fresh Passion and Purpose? Try These 6 Things
#5: Take it one step at a time while keeping a fun mindset.
Life is made of ups and downs. That's what I think makes it so great. We all evolve during our life. Your passions of yesterday will not be your passions of today, nor tomorrow. You can love to do something today, and eventually get bored with it over time.
This is something totally natural that we all face one day or another.
The real problem comes when you lose interest in your passions and goals in life, but have nothing new to look forward to. You are left with nothing. If this ever happens to you, the first thing to do is not to get demoralized.
You will find new passions and new goals in your life. This is a certainty. The key is to be patient and stay open to life. To help you accelerate this process of introspection that you will face, I suggest you try 6 things.
1. Stay curious and open to the world
Life is wonderful, but over time, we all fall into a hellish routine that some people call the Rat Race. You get up and go to work all day. You come home at night, then you go to sleep. The next day, the same thing happens again.
If you stay in this vicious cycle, you will miss out on all the magic of life.
So the best thing you can do is to stay curious about everything in your life. Stay open to the world around you. Listen to the experiences of others. Feed off the experiences of others to discover new things that could become your passions.
With this mindset, sooner or later you will find new goals that will give meaning to your life.
2. Pay attention to the things you can do to help others that you are passionate about
We all need to feel useful in life. Even those who don't think so have this vital human need within them. When you are searching for meaning, a good thing to do is to pay more attention to the things you can do to help others and that you are passionate about.
Once you find these things, you will find that you will find true meaning in your life if you had lost it.
Helping others without expecting anything in return is one of the most important things in the world. It will boost your morale in ways you never imagined.
3. Feel free to draw inspiration from your childhood dreams
When you were a child, you had dreams for your future life. Unfortunately, life decided otherwise for you. You had to go in other directions.
When you reach a turning point in your life, it can be tempting to re-launch yourself by pursuing some of the dreams that inspired you as a youngster.
This doesn't mean you'll become a firefighter like you may have dreamed of back then, but it will give you the boost you need to get back on track and find new passions to spice up your life.
4. Experiment with new activities. Focus on those that make you lose track of time
You have probably already done activities that make you lose track of time. This is a classic sign that these activities are passions for you. If you don't currently have any such activities in your life, experiment!
Dare to be new. Get out of your comfort zone.
As I explained earlier, you have to stay open to new things. Eventually, you'll find activities that you're passionate about and that will get you going again after your slump.
5. Take it one step at a time while keeping a fun mindset
Don't put pressure on yourself. Nothing is urgent. Give yourself time to find new passions in your life. Experimentation requires that you be patient to wait for the day when you find new activities that give your life purpose.
Start small. Take it one step at a time.
It will come to you. When you find those new passions, you will be. At that point, all the difficult moments will be quickly forgotten. You will feel better and understand that everything in life is about patience.
6. Make what is important to you a priority
Priorities change in life. At one point in your life, certain activities were a priority for you. Today, the situation has changed. You see that new activities are becoming a priority for you.
Instead of denying the obvious, embrace these new activities that now give real meaning to your life.
There is no reason to stay fixed on the same passions and goals for the rest of your life. The world is constantly changing. So are you. You know what they say: Evolve or be extinct. Your duty is to evolve. This means accepting to change your passions and goals throughout your life.
Final Thoughts
In life, we all go through periods of questioning. It comes sooner or later. In these moments, you must be willing to take the time to reflect and discover new activities that you are passionate about. Above all, you must remain open to new things without ever giving up.
Life is full of surprises. By remaining patient, you will sooner or later find the new things that give meaning to your life. Once you do, you will leave more motivated than ever.
