Fastest Growing Occupations in America – Green Energy and Non-Automatable Jobs in the Spotlight
COVID-19 has not changed this underlying trend.
More and more people want to become entrepreneurs. Having the freedom to choose your work hours is a dream. However, many people then realize that being an entrepreneur is not as easy as they initially thought. I'm not saying it's bad or good, I'm just saying that being an entrepreneur is not something that is for everyone.
Some people are better suited to working in a salaried job.
No problem with that. So if that's your case, you should be interested to know what jobs will be the best paying by 2030 in America. Depending on your age, this might even be the time to choose the most promising industry for the future.
The fastest-growing occupations for the next decade are to be found in the green energy and the medical world
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released a study detailing which jobs are projected to see the biggest increase in median wages in the future.
The HowMuch website took the opportunity to make an infographic that visually highlights this:
The first thing that is interesting to note here is that wind turbine service technicians will see their salaries explode over the next decade. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 61% increase in their salaries in the future. This would increase the median salary in the profession from $52,910 to $85,185.
Solar photovoltaic installers are also on the podium with expected growth in a median salary of +51% by 2029. These figures are driven by climate change and the growing desire to increase the share of renewable energy in America's electricity supply.
This is a trend that you need to follow for the next few years even if you are an entrepreneur. There will be plenty of opportunities in the green energy area.
In the second place, nurse practitioners are expected to see their median salary increase by +52%. Given that the median salary for the profession is already $109,820, this gives you a median salary of $166,926 for 2029.
Occupations that cannot be automated via artificial intelligence will also see a jump in median wages
Behind them are jobs like statisticians, occupational therapy assistants, and home health & personal care aides.
In analyzing these projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, it becomes clear that many of the jobs that are expected to grow significantly over the next decade are already largely underpaid. Home health & personal care aides will see their salaries increase by 34%, but they are starting from a very low base since their median salary is only $25,280 today.
This will be more of a catch-up than anything else in this case.
The best paid of these high-growth occupations over the next decade are related to the medical world or the energy transition sector. We also see that jobs that cannot be automated via artificial intelligence will see their median salaries increase. It's all about supply and demand here.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the picture, but the underlying trend is still dominated by green energy and medical
Finally, it is interesting to see that these projections change from year to year. In the 2020 to 2030 projections just released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, we find that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the game. Jobs in kitchens and restaurants are expected to see a +49% increase in pay. The current shortage in these areas plays a role.
Similarly, jobs for ushers, lobby attendants, and ticket takers are now expected to increase by +62%.
However, while specific events may alter the ten-year projections, the underlying trends before the COVID-19 pandemic have not changed. Medical and energy transition jobs continue to top the charts for salary growth over the next decade.
So you know what fields you're heading into today if you want to be a winner in the decade ahead.
