A 6-Point Look at American Hegemony on the World’s Financial Markets in 2024
More than ever, America is the center of global finance.
“Make America Great Again” and “America First”.
Donald Trump's two mantras alone could sum up the year that is drawing to a close in the financial markets. And this trend is unlikely to slow as Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House for a second term starting January 20, 2025.
It has to be said that America has shown a resilience that defies the predictions of most economists. On the strength of unfailing growth, a powerful financial ecosystem, and near-monopolies in the tech sector, America has widened the gap with the rest of the world, and in particular with Europe, which is floundering, and China, which is struggling to emerge from the shadows, after having once imagined overtaking America on the cusp of 2030. Xi Jinping's dream has already been buried.
Wall Street has not only withstood one of the fastest interest rate hikes in its history. Whether in terms of stock market performance or attractiveness, the American markets have won the day. The adage “The Winner Takes it All” has been confirmed more than ever for America in 2024. America is more than ever the center of gravity on the financial planet.
