Life is a marathon, not a sprint. You have probably heard or read this many times in the past. If you've heard it before, it's because it's a fundamental truth that you need to integrate to achieve great things in life.
All successful people share some commonalities, at least two of which are:
Work hard on the right things.
Never give up until you succeed.
To apply these two life principles to the letter, you will need to be resilient when you fail. By learning from your failures, adapting, and then continuing to try relentlessly, you will eventually succeed. That's a certainty.
Nevertheless, it is not easy to prove this resilience that makes all the difference. In what follows, I suggest that you practice daily 5 habits to become more resilient over time.
Focus only on what you can control
In life, you can't control everything. Many people are control freaks who wish they could control everything, but sooner or later they will realize that it is not possible to control everything.
So in your daily life, you should avoid wasting energy by focusing on things you can't control.
There is no point in doing that anyway. It is in your best interest to focus fully on the things you can control because that is where you can really make a difference.
Once you get into the habit, you will be able to put your failures into perspective, because you will understand that they are only outcomes that you will have to build on to keep moving forward without losing your enthusiasm.
You will become de facto more resilient.
See obstacles as opportunities
With his book "The Obstacle is the Way", Ryan Holiday had a great success a few years ago. In this bestseller, Ryan Holiday explains that you must see every obstacle as a unique opportunity to grow and progress in life.
While many people will back away from an obstacle or lose their footing, you must absolutely see it as the path to success.
Daily, you need to adopt this mindset that will help you be more resilient. Rather than looking for the easy way out, you will always be looking to move beyond your comfort zone to reach that famous growth zone where anything becomes possible.
Adopt a growth mindset
The book "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol S. Dweck highlighted two categories of people in life: those with a fixed mindset and those with a growth mindset.
People with a fixed mindset will not dare to step out of their comfort zone. At the slightest failure, they will back away rather than try to keep moving forward by building on the lessons learned from that failure.
You must avoid this.
Your goal must be to adopt a growth mindset. This means that you will have to constantly move forward failure after failure. Each failure will be a lesson learned that will allow you to do better the next time.
With this mindset, you will necessarily be much more resilient.
Get rid of the toxic people
You have probably known people who can be described as toxic. These are people who will always see the negative side of things.
Whether they do it voluntarily or not, these people will harm you.
Indeed, with each failure, they will tell you to stop dreaming too big. When you set yourself ambitious challenges, they will undermine your morale by telling you that you don't have a chance. By constantly listening to people telling you this, you can never be resilient.
At the slightest failure, you will listen to these toxic people and end up giving up.
So you need to get rid of these people and surround yourself with people who share the same drive to succeed as you do. This will push each other in the right direction.
Learn to say no
The greatest investor of all time, Warren Buffett explains what sets highly successful people apart from others:
“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”
Unfortunately, too many people don't know how to say no in life.
You need to know how to say no to opportunities that aren't worth pursuing because they don't hold enough promise, but you also need to learn how to say no to distractions that will keep you from achieving your goals.
I'm talking about distractions that bring you instant gratification but only slow you down.
For example, rather than watching Netflix for hours on end, you should seek to deepen your knowledge by reading books. This is a simple example but essential to understand.
The more you learn to say no to these distractions, the more resilient you will become in life.
Final Thoughts
There is no magic bullet for becoming resilient overnight. It's something you'll have to develop day after day for years. The best way to do this is to follow good habits daily, like the five I've just shared with you.
If you can do this, you'll be able to change your life for the better and conquer your most ambitious goals. The last thing you'll need is patience.
